Perrysburg History

Perrysburg History pictureThe area that is today Perrysburg was founded nearly 200 years ago when William Henry Harrison and his troop of 1,200 men spoiled the British and Indian siege of a supply outpost known as Fort Meigs. This was a major victory for the Americans during the War of 1812, and it is still celebrated by the Perrysburg people today.
Perrysburg was founded in 1816 and was named in honor of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry. The city soon became a center for shipping and commerce. In 1854, a cholera epidemic decimated the population and the town literally closed down for two months that summer. More than 100 people perished.
